The MAG Redesign 2021
Motion Design
The MAG
28 Apr / 21
28 Apr / 21 / The MAG
It's the second time I layed hands on The MAG visual presentation. This time The MAG changed headquaters so they decided to look a bit more cleen and fresh to theirs young community.
Gnosis designed the first logo. Bold typo with street-like element "the" supports the idea. Like someone's tag on a wall haha. This time he presented me sketches with clean

Diving deep down to the deep ends of developing / presenting game PLANTĂĹ˝. Even tho I had a lot of fun with my main animation skill for project Painkillers I am stepping out of the motion design scene and focusing on development of new technologies.
Once you are bored of other's briefs, you just create one yourself. Brief that requires to stand out from computer. Trying to go for less sitting this year.
This year, Let It Roll wasn't just a drum and bass festival, it was a 3D audio-reactive playground. Labels logos and line-ups morphed, grew, and shattered in a digital spectacle.
"Aquarenas" in late 2021 was a deep dive into organic visuals bottom, leaving me hooked. I had to create "Studie," my visual ode to plants in harsh environments.
In 2021 we uplifted visual identity to The MAG - Youtube channel. The motion design has been watched daily by young audiences until 2024, making it a neat cultural influence on the scene.
I played many DJ sets, produced a lot of music, and attended quite a few events. Addict was one of them and I enjoyed this collaboration a lot. Beyond parties, underground communities, and runway trends, I believe cloth simulation finds its place in future. "Nobody" trusted me and I was able to show of my visual style.
I released my first music, EP - DONE, out to listening platforms. Meant to create audio-reactive visuals for all 4 tracks. Sadly, my PC was stolen with unfinished videos on hard disk. Learned to save files the hard way. Guess 2 was it.
First time on set as a green-screen postproduction guy. Sprite campaign stants out. Yzo Mandias, Johny Machette.
Most of the online agencies work. Created many ads and case studies. I had a lot of fun with Ben and Jerry's client tho.
Audio-visual study on the sand-loving plant
Presenting you the future. A plant that could live on Mars. On our screens. As a reminder of endless growth.
...A plant that could live on Mars. On our screens. As a reminder of endless growth.
So the idea of creating my own plant came up from an earlier project Aquarenas. Keeping in mind she represents the power of nature in places where water is the most valuable commodity. She has biological features to defend herself such as a complex root system, thorns, reflective skin and many more based on my research Studie. Coding her in Houdini always lifts my mood. Imagine paying no attention to outer space. Full focus. Flow state.
Soon you will be able to experience the acoustic part in a VR space Cuddle Terapie. Feel them. Touch them. Interact with them.

18 min documentary movie of Slovak environment
Start of my organic era.
...The person behind the production and camera KristĂna Jamrichová sent me a brief with no exact idea of what she wanted from me. Told her I want to visualise the environment and characteristics of flowers, mainly their growth.
My first idea was about creating an environment where these flowers live in. So I showed her some virus-like generative animation and grains interaction between small particles and she was fine with it. A week passed by when I was researching structures and I've sent her some of these procedural videos of a root system. We both didn't know still what the other one is creating haha. A week before the deadline she sent me the first preview of 13 minutes long footage and asked me to do postproduction. At this moment I knew what I am going to do with all my snippets. Realized I need to conjoin the idea of my flowers into the video. Then I did some motion tracking of her "BBC looking like" footage from the Slovak environment. Planted my flowers in there and called it a day.
There were only a handful of people involved. Natálie Pleváková contributed to me the most with her sound design. The first time I played her audio file in the background of my visualisation I had slight shivers how dark could it get.
Music video for my EP 1/4
Sound powered liquid in endless motion.
...Changing shape between more stable parts into dynamic movement of electricity. Soft pastel colours work as a contrast to dark synthetizer background. Well, for the first time I get rid of keyframes, that means animating through nods and expression only. It’s always enlightening to create something outside of your comfort zone.
Music video for my EP 2/4
Options in generative graphic software Houdini are endless.
...This time I recreate fluid density and interpret how sound waves influence such structure in different dynamic way. Many thanks to Entagma tutorials for opening me door to this world full of new entertaining paths.
Poster in motion
My first artsy motion design.
...I always took myself more like an animator than a illustrator or a graphic designer. After finishing high school I was attempting many Arts colleagues. Sadly I didn't make it in any one of them due to lack of personal style. Realized that my skill is to help express other's static work in motion. I had oportunity to share my motion design experience with creative visual person Kristýna Londinová's poster.
Producing own audio track that capture untouchable tenstion, contrast attitudes, points of view. Kiss Her was second audio production since Balon.
Graduation movie
BalĂłn was my first animation extending two minutes footage during last year of high shcool.
...The theme was "To heaven" so I made actuall hot-air balloon out of plastic bags ducktaped around this jumping bouncing ball your mom helper her backs to stay straight right. Then I attached a fancy box with nylon strings that fishermen using. All of the sudden I had a prop to shoot!
The story fits background music I made - dreamy. Inside of a small diary these hands open they build a balloon with gestures that flies out "to heaven".
I was inspired by belgian artist Greg Barth when he shoot objects from 3D printer on a simple colourful backgrounds. Then he simulated visual of electronic music that he used in his animation.
Instead of using dynamic audio I lower tempo according to lightness of thematic approach. Video Balon is based on aesthetic feeling from sound and fluid motion. Before hitting play button make yourself relaxed and get uplifted.
Music event propagation
NobodyListen asked me to present Addict.
...One of many events that were also happening in a church since it was somehow connected with MBPFW. I wondered why people keep coming in such numbers, which element makes Addict parties so famous, what would you like to see before the show to get excited. I stepped out of my comfort zone with 2D animations I made for Jakub earlier and I jumped into Houdini.
I've been playing with cloth materials at that time. I was fascinated with the wind interaction, and how much it stretches, how the cloth defines itself based on folds shadow. I gave it a shot and the results could look like a thrown out plastic bag or a national flag.
Suddenly a VERSACE TEXTURE IN SCARF HOOKED ON LOGO WITH JAKUB'S OWN SOUND DESIGN appeared. Splendid.
Music festival announcment
I have been aproached from Let It Roll Festival to present their line-up.
...So we did our creative session with Jacox, told him I want to bring something new and he was like: "3D PRINTING". Yeah we had fun with his printer already before when we tried test footage on my logo DONE.
We've made 13 different videos for main artists by printing these names and placing them to small scenes we created. When we finished they asked to do some more for labels playing there too. It was time to come up with new ideas and techniques.
It was refreshing project having no set visuals that we need to follow. All we did was capturing them and making it look cool in postproduction with sound.
Motion visual style of new interview channel
Gnosis called me out of nowhere and he was like:
..."We've got a job! It's going to be a new youtube interview channel produced by MatÄ›j KretĂk. There are going to be people telling their life struggles and moving stories." He presented me the whole brand visual in static form and I replied: "LET'S MAKE IT 3D."
The main task would be an Intro. I had a clear image in my head of how it could look like. Imagine monumental logo above the sports stadium. The main selling point would be the contrast between an enormous stage and an actuall size of the logo to enlarge its magnificent. This idea is inspired by the look of American entertainment. The next shot would be a detail of the direct punch of a boxing glove through the screen where shattered pieces uncover the final logo.
I presented the idea and I was told it won't be such sport-based.
I gave it a second thought. The monumental path should remain. So I thought about animation where the logo acts like an individual character that was built out of nothing. It should come together where it can be presented.
Well, I model the octagon from the logo. Let these elements shatter. Reversed the footage to make it comes back together. Adjusted cameras for smooth transitions. Added materials and lightning. Made a purchase from a sound library. Fired up Ableton. Mixed sounds together. Boom. Intro.
Go have a look for yourselves at how it turned out.
Rebrand of an entertainment channel
It's the second time I layed hands on The MAG visual presentation.
...This time The MAG changed headquaters so they decided to look a bit more clean and fresh to theirs young community.
Gnosis designed the first logo. Bold typo with street-like element "the" supports the idea. Like someone's tag on a wall haha. This time he presented me sketches with clean gradient colours. "It should feel like you are playing on Playstation" he said. I pretty much perfectly imagined how it should look like in my head. After we finished the project he said in podcast that he didn't feel like The MAG needs redesign. But still he had vision to freshen up colours for youngsters to please their eyes as main audience. To lit someone's gray day.

Homemade interviews
Behind the scenes of Let It Roll promotion
BTS short for Behind The Scene with Jacox.
...Alright, imagine that you pitch a crazy new idea and it gets approved. Such a good feeling. Me and Jacox are talking about our creative process, concept ideas and nerdy stuff.
In the first episode we talk about this project Let It Roll.
Here's a look back at the experiences that shaped me as a motion designer.
I went to school SUS Ostrava field Graphics - Animation. Learned animation software After Effects from Andrew Cramer tutorials. Might be because my brother did Call Of Duty montages.
Unsuccesfully registered to colleges at ZlĂn - Digital Design, Prague - UMPRUM Animation and Film, FAMU Department of Animated Film (KAT), Pilsen - Studio of Animation and Interactive Art. I was told it's due to not having own visual style even though I knew I am better animator than others kids. Then I moved to Prague to work for online agency Socialsharks. I'm updating this website as portfolio since then. It's cool to remind myself what did I do years ago.
Around that time I met creative people outside work. Flashfaker with Matej Kretik addapted me to Prague scene.
5 years in Online Agencies. Second Motion Design Festival Mouvo. Learned about procedural node-based 3D software Houdini and it's posibilities. Thanks to Entagma tutorials. Enjoyed it because it was no more keyframe based animation but like generative. It's hard to addapt to Houdini enviroment so I was on and off experimenting on my own music videos.
Freelancing. Own clients. I experimented enough to understand my visual style.
I wanted to present my procedural plants different way than in videos. In 2023 I adapted Unity to developing own game. It was easy to switch from earlier experiences in 3D software. I like Unity because it's interactive, there is Visual scripting - connecting nodes.
